To date, NCAAZK has donated $65,717 to conservation organizations around the world!

2016

NCAAZK gave away $4,239!!

The following organizations were selected by NCAAZK members for support in 2016:

  • Bowling for Rhinos (http://aazkbfr.org/): an AAZK-sponsored fund raising event occurring throughout the nation to raise money and awareness about in situ rhino conservation, as well as their habitats.
  • Save the Golden Lion Tamarin Track a Tamarin program (http://savetheliontamarin.org/): Save the Golden Lion Tamarin provides technical and financial support to help Associação Mico-Leão Dourado- AMLD (Golden Lion Tamarin Association), save golden lion tamarins in perpetuity.  Save the Golden Lion Tamarin focuses its efforts to help AMLD achieve the long-term financial stability to retain their competent team to continue their critical work.
  • Asian Turtle Program (http://www.asianturtleprogram.org/): The aim of the Asian Turtle Program is to establish a safe and sustainable future for Asian turtles, and to ensure that no further turtle species become extinct in the region. We implement strategic interventions that directly contribute to the conservation of Asian turtles, helping to ensure efficient use of limited resources, as well as developing capacity, strengthening leadership, and ultimately effecting positive attitudinal and behavioural change within society.

2015

NCAAZK gave away $10,764.73!!

The following organizations were selected by NCAAZK members for support in 2015:

  • Bowling for Rhinos: an AAZK-sponsored fund raising event occurring throughout the nation to raise money and awareness about in situ rhino conservation, as well as their habitats.
  • Wildlife SOS (India):  is a non-profit charitable organization based in India and dedicated to the eradication of “Bear Dancing” through establishing rescue and rehab facilities, as well as educating and rehabbing the communities, helping them establish other means of employment.  Since their start in 1995, in addition to helping Sloth Bears, Wildlife SOS as also rescued thousands of birds, reptiles, and small mammals and has begun their Elephant Welfare Project.
  • SECORE: SECORE International is a leading conservation organization for the protection and restoration of coral reefs.
  • Madagascar Biodiversity Partnership: strives to protect local forests for the lemurs while ecologically and environmentally raising the standard of living for thousands of people who are equally reliant upon the natural resources.

2014

NCAAZK gave away $6,524!!

The following organizations were selected by NCAAZK members for support in 2014:

  • Bowling for Rhinos: an AAZK-sponsored fund raising event occurring throughout the nation to raise money and awareness about in situ rhino conservation, as well as their habitats.
  • Turtle Survival Alliance, an action oriented global partnership that is committed to zero turtle extinctions in the 21st century.

2013

NCAAZK gave away $16,461!!

The following organizations were selected by NCAAZK members and Open House hosts for support in 2013:

  • Honolulu AAZK Chapter
  • Oyster Recovery Partnership: The Oyster Recovery Partnership (ORP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that plans, promotes and implements science-based and sustainable shellfish restoration, aquaculture and wild fishery activities to protect our environment, support our economy and preserve our cultural heritage.
  • Bowling for Rhinos: an AAZK-sponsored fund raising event occurring throughout the nation to raise money and awareness about in situ rhino conservation, as well as their habitats.
  • Chopsticks for Salamanders: A non-profit organization working to connect sustainable practices with salamander conservation, education and research support.

2012

NCAAZK gave away $11,799!!

The following organizations were selected by NCAAZK members for support in 2012:

  • Save the Tasmanian Devil:  The Save the Tasmanian Devil is the official response to the threat of the survival of the Tasmanian devil.
  • ACOBIA-DWAZoo: to establish a rehabilitation facility and information centre for manatees in Peru.

2011

NCAAZK gave away $8,872.90!!

The following organizations were selected by NCAAZK members and Open House hosts for support in 2011:

      • Sloth Sanctuary of Costa Rica: a sanctuary for rescued and rehabilitated sloths, as well as providing research and education for locals.
      • American Livestock Breed Conservancy: a nonprofit organization working to protect over 180 historic breeds of livestock and poultry from extinction.
      • Madagascar Fauna Group: an international consortium pooling together resources to help conserve animal species in Madagascar.
      • APOPO / Hero Rats: a NGO that trains African giant pouched rats to detect landmines and tuberculosis.
      • Ruaha Carnivore Project: a project focused on studying conflict resolution strategies for the five large carnivore species in and around Ruaha National Park in Tanzania.

2010

NCAAZK gave away $6,672!!

NCAAZK supports conservation and research organizations within the Smithsonian, as well as animal organizations and research outside its bounds.  In 2010, with the generous help of members and our supporters, NCAAZK was able to contribute…

….a record breaking $6,672 to wildlife conservation organizations across the globe!

The following organizations were selected by NCAAZK members and Animal Care Open House hosts for support in 2010 (click on titles for more information about each organization):

      • Elephant Managers Association, an international non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of the world’s elephants through improved conservation, husbandry, research, education and communication.
      • Monarch Watch, an educational outreach program based at the University of Kansas that engages citizen scientists in large-scale butterfly research projects.
      • Animals Asia, a Hong Kong based organization devoted to the welfare of wild and urban animals, as well as the conservation of endangered species, in Asia.
      • Projecto Pichoo, a bird conservation project through Africam Safari in Pueblo, Mexico.
      • Sea Turtle Conservancy, a Florida-based organization that carries out worldwide programs to conserve and recover sea turtle populations through research, education, advocacy, and protection of the natural habitats the turtles depend upon.
      • Kori Bustard Species Survival Plan, an Association of Zoos and Aquariums program to maintain captive populations of kori bustards that are genetically and demographically self-sustaining.
      • Bowling for Rhinos, a national AAZK fund raising campaign that supports in situ rhino conservation in Kenya and Indonesia.
      • Mabuwaya Foundation, a Philippine NGO that runs the Crocodile Rehabilitation, Observance and Conservation (CROC) project to conserve the critically endangered Philippine crocodile.
      • Turtle Survival Alliance, an action oriented global partnership that is committed to zero turtle extinctions in the 21st century.

To date, NCAAZK has contributed a total of $65,717 to conservation.
